Claymills - Sludge Treatment Heat Exchanger
At Claymills site, Severn Trent Water, we supplied three DTI corrugated tube heat exchangers, each to provide 450kW of heating to a digester.
It was very challenging and we had to work very closely with the Severn Trent digester team and GTS who installed the units and built the pipework,
in order to measure up where the units would be positioned. Part of the problem was that Severn Trent were taking out three existing heat exchangers
which were inefficient in sludge heating, so the existing pipework was already set, and we had a very tight space to fit our exchangers in.
We also had to work with existing pumps for hot water and sludge, so had to be very careful in designing our exchangers with low pressure drops which could be met by the existing pumps.
HRS are working closely with the Severn Trent digester team, in identifying and replacing problem exchangers which need a lot of maintenance due to blocking.
It means visiting the site, measuring up the space available, then designing the complete unit with frame, with connections in the right orientation to match up with existing pipework.
There is a considerable amount of drawing time spent fitting a given exchanger/duty and checking that there is no clash with existing pipe runs.
